The handling of materials is basically the same as that of man, as mankind always needed raw materials or goods to be moved from their original place to a certain place to be handled or used for a given task. The different ways in which the materials were collected, loaded, transported, processed and distributed were needed. Materials were initially processed in basic ways, usually one unit at a time.
Fredrick Taylor was also the father of industrial engineering who gave a lot of attention to the production of materials. Loading procedures must be strengthened as an important step in any supply chain. This soon invented the forklift. In 1915 the first such computer was launched and soon it became a very important development. For each warehouse it was the most efficient machine to use, because pallets were easy to handle regardless of their weight. It resulted in much easier handling of products and items. Finally, forklifts could lift pallets very high, and the next feature was the pallet rack.
Around the late 1920s pallet racks were developed for vertical storage. Instead of taking up more floor space, it allowed warehouses to grow in height.
The 40s and 50s of the 20th century focused on efficient solutions to improve complex procedures of material handling. The response was mechanization, particularly pallet lifts. People began to use the word ' unit load,' meaning pallets would maximize space in the warehouse. In the 1950s the idea was widely applied when it became part of the intermodal container solution, enabling the sequence of freight transport on trucks, trains and boats. However, manual operations are frequently required, which means that workers use their hands to carve, fill, lift or lower goods and parcels for operations.The ergonomics that improve their work include lifting, tilt and turntable, turning, helixes etc. are various. They improve their working conditions.

Cranes are heavy machinery's most versatile components for material handling. Cranes can be either vertical or horizontal depending on the location and type of content. We make the product handling systems more robust than the conveyors. These existed since the Roman Empire and William Armstrong showed William the first modern crane at the dawn of the Industrial Revolution. Cranes may be fixed, self-driven, or mounted in a truck. Industrial trucks are also very useful in the handling of materials. Lifting and recharge vehicles are available, including automated guided vehicles and the cutting-edge technology, depending on the task required.
In addition to being essential for production, industrial robots are also important for material handling. In 1937, the first was invented by Bill Taylor. George Devol and his Unimation Company received the first patent in 1961 for robotics. In the 1970s, firms like KUKA and ABB were finally introduced on the market. SCA–purchased Unimation from Faverges in 1988 and Bosch in 2004.
A number of special machines such as conveyors, transducers, floors, stackers, bucket lifts, dumpers for trucks and rail, as well as many other equipment, must be handled by bulk materials.
